Ecodesign

A special
exhibition of
ecological design

The EcoDesign special exhibition explores eco-friendly design through annually changing themes. Top international designers and up-and-coming talents from Finland and abroad will be invited to the exhibition.

EcoDesign concentrates on current issues and innovations in design from the point of view of ecological sustainability. Most of the pieces on show are unique and designed especially for the EcoDesign exhibition.

This year, the brief for the designers will be to present wooden interior design articles and furniture. The invited curator of the exhibition is Kristiina Lassus, a Finnish designer who has built a career for herself in Italy and continues to work there. Her track record includes working as a design manager for the Italian design company Alessi. Lassus received the German Red Dot design award in 2008 and 2010.

The entries must be made from 80% wood and 20% some other environmentally friendly material. The recommended material is certified wood, for example FSC or PEFC.

The previous themes of EcoDesign were ‘chair’ (2009), ‘light’ (2010) and ‘multifunction' (2011). On all three occasions, almost a hundred designers, architects and artists from dozens of countries took part in the event.

Previous jury chairmen for the exhibition were the German designer Konstantin Grcic (2011), the German lighting designer Ingo Maurer (2010) and the Finnish furniture designer Professor Yrjö Kukkapuro (2009).
